Aslı Çavuşoğlu is in conversation with Milovan Farronato about her solo show TunState, which will open at Barriera Association on November 6. TunState is inspired from tardigrades, an organism which has the ability to temporarily slow down or stop their biological functions under extreme temperatures for years or decades as tuns. Çavuşoğlu explores an alternative to the climate crisis scenarios of extinction happening either at high or low temperatures, she proposes a TunState, a third alternative for the survival of living beings by setting examples of different species which are highly adaptive. The exhibition draws connections between existence and extinction through exploring both the physical and metaphorical connotations of natural materials. Materials affected by high and low temperatures stand out as the main elements in the works.
