The talk takes its title from a book by Martin Herbert on artists’ withdrawal from the art world. The focus of the dialogue is the position of artists and their vulnerability inside the system, in relation to the themes of desire and censorship, which in certain cases can be aimed at one’s own work, becoming self-censorship. Which forms and strategies are artists researching and applying in order to respond/react to the call for progressive consumption induced by art markets, once they decide to confront them?
Speakers: Ryan Gander (artist), Rosalind Nashashibi (artist). Moderated by Barbara Casavecchia (critic, curator and Frieze Contributing Editor)
