ENHANCING THE EXISTING, THE CITY AND ARCHIVIO OSCAR PIATTELLA

Artissima is pleased to welcome into its cultural project Il respiro della luce, an unprecedented enhancement initiative under the patronage of the City of Turin and led by the Archivio Oscar Piattella. The project stems from the desire to rediscover and promote a cultural asset that, for some time, had not found its rightful place on the city’s cultural map. The Archivio Oscar Piattella, under the patronage of the City and in collaboration with the Department of Culture, the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino, the Pinacoteca Albertina, and the Abbonamento Torino Musei circuit, opens the doors of the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora della Salute, showcasing the monumental glass apse (17 meters high, composed of 13,000 hand-blown glass tesserae) by artist Oscar Piattella. The 1992 permanent artwork is reinterpreted through backlighting and a site-specific intervention of sound landscape and contemporary dance. A journey that begins on the occasion of Artissima and will continue over the next two years. At the fair, the City and the Archivio present a stand that will tell the story of Piattella’s research and his relationship with light and material, through a selection of works representative of symbolic moments in his career, along with a video on the apse. At the same time, the rooms of the Pinacoteca Albertina will host a thematic exhibition dedicated to the apse and to light. The works will also be the subject of specific workshops for students of the Accademia Albertina. A widespread presence of the artist throughout the city, connecting the fair, historical heritage, museum institutions, and artistic education.
