I LEFT SOMETHING IN THE WOODS

In the area of the former Zoo – Parco Michelotti, on the façade of the building that once housed giraffes and elephants, Artissima, in collaboration with Città di Torino, presents a special project for the fourth consecutive year.

I Left Something in the Woods (2025) by the duo Hedda Roman – represented by the Sies + Höke gallery of Düsseldorf – is a 4K-HDR short film accompanied by a soundtrack by DECHA (Viktoria Wehrmeister), and features skeletal leviathans that transform domestic space into ruins infested by forces pressuring the present.

The human figures chase one another and dissolve into each other in a continuous pursuit lacking a narrative resolution, generating a temporal loop in which the future folds back on the past, contaminating places inhabited by ghosts. The monochromatic images alternate with recurring crystalline structures, inspired by the first photographs of snowflakes taken by Wilson Bentley, which heighten the relationship between capture and disappearance, interruption and repetition of fragile, temporary forms.

Hedda Roman is an art duo based in Düsseldorf composed of Hedda Schattanik (Westerstede, Germany, 1992) and Roman Szczesny (Bensberg, Germany, 1987). Their work includes elements of cinema, surreal animation, literature, dramaturgy, sculpture, photography and drawing. In their artistic practice generative AI becomes a medium to probe into the constructs of identity and reality.
