Thanks to the renewed dialogue between Artissima and UNA Esperienze, a brand of Gruppo UNA Italian Hospitality, the ballroom of the historic Hotel Principi di Piemonte | UNA Esperienze in the centre of Turin hosts – for the seventh year of collaboration with Artissima – a project by the artist Franco Mazzucchelli.
Franco Mazzucchelli (Milano, 1939), represented by the gallery ChertLüdde of Berlin, will present a sculpture in PVC and air, reprogramming its configuration into a form of occupation and reinterpretation of space. The inflatable work establishes a direct relationship with the ballroom; with its monumental character and lightness, and it facilitates viewing through new processes of perception and interaction, engaging the audience as an active presence and breaking down the barriers of places designed to generate surprise, curiosity and wonder. Since the 1960s Mazzucchelli has been known for his ground-breaking experimentation with inflatable synthetic materials and public spatial installations on a large scale, known for their way of disrupting the everyday habits of local residents. His most famous series, A. to A. (Art to Abandon), is composed of inflatable PVC sculptures that were initially left in lakes and deserts, before being placed in public spaces all over Italy, such as piazzas, schools and factories, activating an objective vital experience within social space.
