In the contemporary art system, the role of galleries is frequently identified primarily with their commercial function. Nevertheless, their work extends across a broader landscape, where economic activity and cultural production are closely interconnected. While galleries operate as commercial enterprises and market actors, they simultaneously perform a fundamental cultural function: they research and support artists, contribute to the production of artworks and exhibitions, accompany artistic careers over time, and foster relationships with collectors, museums, foundations, and public institutions. The economic and cultural dimensions are therefore not in opposition, but represent complementary facets of a unified function within the art ecosystem. From this awareness stems the work that ANGAMC intends to undertake: to reinforce the recognition of galleries as both economic and cultural entities, and to initiate a dialogue on their role, their responsibilities, and the conditions necessary for them to continue performing this function within an increasingly international art system.

Speakers:  Pietro Vallone (President ANGAMC, Partner & CFO Galleria MASSIMODECARLO), Luigi Fassi (Director of Artissima – Internazionale d’Arte Contemporanea), Luca Zuccala (Director of Il Giornale dell’Arte).
