MIRA – Mediterranean Institute for Research and Arts

The Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture is expanding its presence at Artissima with two distinct spaces.

MIRA – Mediterranean Institute for Research and Arts *, the new cultural hub in Messina, will have a dedicated space at the fair, hosting an installation by the Polisonum collective, conceived for the launch of MIRA’s artistic programme. The project will include a daily performance by the Polisonum collective at 5 pm: Posso sentire ciò che ancora non riesco a vedere (I Can Hear What I Still Cannot See).

On Sunday, 1 November, from 4:15 to 5:00 pm, the talk “Il contemporaneo come strumento di diplomazia culturale: la visione dell’Unità di Missione per la Cooperazione culturale con l’Africa e il Mediterraneo del Ministero della Cultura” (in Italian) will take place at the fair’s Meeting Point. The talk will offer an opportunity to explore how contemporary culture can serve as a bridge, foster dialogue and act as a tool for cultural diplomacy.

A second institutional space will serve as a meeting point for artists, curators, gallerists, museum directors and other professionals in the field. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the programmes and opportunities promoted by the DGCC and to consult publications, studies and research projects supported by its funding programmes.
