VIVONO, organized by Centro Pecci in Prato and curated by Michele Bertolino, is the first institutional exhibition to reconstruct the forgotten history of Italian artists affected by the HIV-AIDS crisis. It traces a possible path from 1982, when the first cases were recorded in Italy, to 1996, when antiretroviral therapies were introduced. Works of art, poetry, and video are interwoven with archival materials and personal memories, conveying the urgency and uniqueness of that period. The conversation—with Michele Bertolino, Valeria Calvino, Stefano Collicelli Cagol, and Ida Panicelli—reflects on those years, bringing together experiences of art and activism, interweaving personal accounts and artistic research. On this occasion, the exhibition catalogue will be presented. Published by Axis Axis, it is composed of two volumes: the Reader, which gathers newly commissioned essays along with an anthology of poems and poetic texts by some of the artists featured in the exhibition; and the Archive, which presents documents and images of artworks arranged in a linear chronological sequence from 1982 to 1996.
Speakers: Michele Bertolino, Indipendent Curator; Valeria Calvino, Social Worker and Activist; Stefano Collicelli Cagol, Director of the Centro per l’Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato; Ida Panicelli, Art Critic and Historian
