A conversation between artist Taus Makhacheva and curator Francesco Manacorda reframes artistic creation as the outgrowth of the interplay between structures and systems. Makhacheva’s studio practice actively dismantles the myth of the solitary genius, revealing the complex web of collaborators, invisible labour, and emotional undercurrents that sustain creative work.
Through video, performance, and a characteristically humorous approach, her art probes the unstable connections between historical narratives and fictions of cultural authenticity. The discussion will delve into the frictions between this collaborative ecosystem and the institutional frameworks that shape it—foregrounding how artistic production emerges through negotiation, influence, and shared authorship.
