Event The Biennial of Young Artists

Description

In the framework of Artissima 2017, BJCEM organizes a presentation of its activities to the public in Turin, with a particular focus on the last Biennial held in Tirana and Durres from May 4 to 9. The Biennale opened with a pre-Biennale event in Bari on May 3, during which over 150 artists had the opportunity to attend the performance “Kater I Rades. The Shipwreck”, twenty years after the dramatic sinking of the Albanian vessel in the Otranto Canal. After the performance, all the artists were involved in a symbolic crossing on  a ferry from Bari to Durres. During the night the ship was animated by talks and musics around the theme “Art and migrations”, with the participation of internationally renowned artists and guests.

With the support of video and photographic materials, we will remember the extraordinary atmosphere lived in Tirana, with the peaceful invasion of 230 young artists in the city center, the opening of the exhibitions, the beginning of the shows and live performances and the closing in Durres at the city’s archeological museum.

A special reflection will be dedicated to the theme of the Biennale, “HOME”, proposed by the Artistic Director Driant Zeneli, divided into four subthemes: History + Conflict + Dream + Failure = Home. An important concept in a country such as Albania, characterized by an isolated past, and by an extremely fast transition. A geopolitical area where history, conflict, dream and failure constantly cross daily life.

Speakers: Federica Candelaresi (secretary general BJCEM) e Driant Zeneli (artistic director Mediterranea 18 Young Artists Biennale)
