MADE IN vol.4: artist’s residencies are ready to start

8 April 2026 Journal News

Artissima and Camera di commercio di Torino announce the four young artists selected for the MADE IN vol.4 residency program. Launched in 2022 from a shared desire to foster dialogue between contemporary art and Torino’s thriving business ecosystem, the project is based on the idea that corporate know-how and specialized production processes can become a precious resource for the creation of works of art resulting from the fusion of different worlds.

The winners of MADE IN vol.4 are: Dario Capello (1997), Roberto Casti (1992), Lucia Cristiani (1991), and Marco Schiavone (1990).

The four selected artists will be offered a residency to create a new work, which will remain their property. During this time, they will integrate and be influenced by the technological and operational expertise of the companies they collaborate with.

The works produced will be presented at Artissima 2026.

The residencies will take place within four leading companies from the local area, protagonists of the fourth edition of the project: Blue Engineering, a leader in advanced engineering solutions for the automotive, railway, and aerospace sectors; Ferrino, a company specialized in the development of outdoor equipment, synonymous with innovation and pioneering spirit since 1870; Galup, a Piedmont-based brand representing confectionery tradition since 1922 with artisanal panettone and selected ingredients; and Oscalito 1936, a Torino-based brand producing garments in fine natural fibers, combining quality and sustainability.

The residencies will also provide an opportunity for dialogue with prestigious contemporary art galleries in Torino—project’s patrons and key players in the entrepreneurial landscape: Luce Gallery (Torino), Mazzoleni (Torino – London), Franco Noero (Torino), and Simóndi (Torino).

For the fourth consecutive year, the project is curated by Sonia Belfiore, independent curator and founder of Ultravioletto, arte + impresa.

The duration of each artist’s residency within the company will vary depending on the needs of the project and will conclude by the end of June.

Thanks to the support of Camera di commercio di Torino, Artissima will provide each selected artist with a budget of €5,500 to cover production and hospitality expenses.

THE SELECTED ARTISTS
The four artists selected for MADE IN vol.4 were chosen through an open call distributed among major public and private Academies of Fine Arts and Italian universities. The final selection followed a careful evaluation by the MADE IN Committee, chaired by Luigi Fassi, Director of Artissima, and composed of representatives from the four Torino-based “patron” galleries together with Sonia Belfiore, the project curator.

Dario Capello in dialogue with Blue Engineering and Franco Noero Gallery
The collaboration between Dario Capello and Blue Engineering focuses on the transition from concept to form. The research explores Blue Engineering’s expertise in developing complex projects—from design to production—transforming it into both a study environment and a field of intervention. This multidisciplinary exchange enables an exploration of the asymmetries between the imperative of technical measurability and design processes.

Roberto Casti in dialogue with Galup and Simóndi Gallery
The project that Roberto Casti will develop in collaboration with Galup draws on the parallel between artistic practice and confectionery production, with the aim of highlighting a processes of care, labor, and ritual— the result of interdependent relationships that are often forgotten by the time the product is enjoyed or tasted. Through the study of production processes and active collaboration with company staff, the artist will focus on the sonic, olfactory, and visual elements that precede the finalization of Galup’s products.

Lucia Cristiani in dialogue with Oscalito 1936 and Mazzoleni Gallery
The dialogue between Lucia Cristiani and Oscalito 1936 will focus on the intersection of technical knowledge and a reflection on ethics, responsibility, and sustainability in both artistic and industrial practices. Her residency will explore material reappropriation and the emotional and symbolic transformation of objects, investigating the relationship between past and present, artisanal gestures and industrial knowledge, reuse, waste valorization, and care practices.

Marco Schiavone in dialogue with Ferrino and Luce Gallery
Marco Schiavone’s project emerges from the encounter between his artistic vision and Ferrino’s heritage, unfolding through the company’s historical archive, technical materials, and production processes. By observing documents, prototypes, and upcycling practices, the artist aims to create a work that connects landscape, technique, and memory—resulting in a visual narrative where experience, design, and use intertwine through textiles, components, photography, and living natural materials.

PREVIOUS EDITIONS
The works created in previous editions of the project were the result of collaborations that led to unexpected production processes and solutions for both artists and companies. Materials and production methods were reimagined in creative and functional ways, tailored to the formal characteristics of each artwork, thus opening up new perspectives on potential applications.
