The Quantum Effect explores spatial and temporal paradoxes introduced by quantum theory: entanglement, parallel universes, teleportation, and dark matter. Quantum physics shattered the dream of a predictable cosmos. Today, the consequences of this revolution continue to unfold in science, technology and the arts. The exhibition combines artworks, films and scientific experiments with quantum theories and their symbolic representations in the form of key equations assigned by Professor Ulf Danielsson, Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physics. It thus unfolds via discrete languages: the language of art and cinema, the language of scientific experiments, and the language of equations. The Quantum Effect presents cinematic devices by Jacqui Davis alongside other works of art by Cerith Wyn Evans, Isa Genzken, Mark Leckey, Tomás Saraceno, Emilija Škarnulytė, Sturtevant, Man Ray and Rirkrit Tiravanija. As part of its Quantum program, OGR also presents Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room – The Eternally Infinite Light of the Universe Illuminating the Quest for Truth (2020). In partnership with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema a film series will run alongside the exhibition, drawing inspiration from its themes and symbols like the black monolith in Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. A monolith-like book published by Verlag Walther und Franz König accompanies the show.
