Ironic, passionate, disruptive and rebellious, the art of Clemen Parrocchetti (Milan, 1923–2016) is a powerful cry for emancipation and female self-determination. Working on the fringes of a cultural system dominated by male logic, Parrocchetti exemplifies the commitment of many women artists of her generation to challenging conventions and prescribed models. Aligned with the feminist movement and a member of the Gruppo Immagine of Varese, she appropriated the symbolic tools of ‘women’s work’ (domestic labour, sewing and the home, but also the body), transforming them into powerful instruments of political and artistic struggle.
The catalogue is realised by the Clemen Parrocchetti Archive, the Museo Novecento in Florence with the support of the MUS.E Foundation, and the Frac Lorraine in Metz. Published by Dario Cimorelli Editore and curated by Marco Scotini, the volume conveys the complexity of Clemen Parrocchetti’s practice. Her work is currently on view in Un orlo a giorno per il mio diario (“A hemstitch a day for my diary”), Parrocchetti’s solo exhibition at ChertLüdde, Berlin.
