Talk

How does an artists’ foundation come into being and operate? And what role can an archive play today in fostering new forms of knowledge, research and engagement with museums, cultural institutions, collectors and the public? The talk introduces the newly established Giovanni and Alda Anselmo Foundation ETS, the natural evolution of the Associazione Archivio Anselmo ETS. This transition marks a new phase in the preservation, study and promotion of Giovanni Anselmo’s work and artistic legacy. Building on this experience, the talk reflects on the role of artists’ foundations within the contemporary art system: institutions called upon to safeguard, present and promote an artist’s work and ideas, while also generating research, knowledge, and new opportunities for dialogue with the museums, the public and the collecting community. The discussion will bring together different experiences, including the Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini and the Fondazione Giorgio Griffa ETS, to explore practices, visions, and projects and to consider how an archive can become a dynamic space for culture, dialogue and transmission.

Speakers:  Rocco Mussat Sartor (President, Fondazione Giovanni e Alda Anselmo ETS, Turin), Bettina Della Casa (Director, Fondazione Giulio e Anna Paolini, Turin), Giulio Caresio (Vice President, Fondazione Giorgio Griffa ETS, Turin), Francesco Stocchi (Curator and Art Critic)
