Renato Leotta. Vittoria sul Sole

Thanks to renewed dialogue between Artissima and UNA Esperienze, a brand of Gruppo UNA Italian Hospitality, the ballroom of the historic Hotel Principi di Piemonte | UNA Esperienze in the centre of Torino welcomed an exhibition project by Renato Leotta ( Sprovieri Gallery, London) titled Vittoria sul Sole. The artist, through a process of slow, painstaking observation of the landscape, transforms natural phenomena such as a volcanic eruption into poetic imagery. Clouds of ash and lapilli obscure the sun, generating an “alien” perspective that adheres to the pictorial surface, recreating an essential condition that mystically opens up to the cosmic act of looking and challenges the need to compete in image production. This act of nullification invokes a libertarian and anarchic aesthetic that intertwines natural and historical events, evoking a parallel between nature and the uncertainty of our times.
