Silvana Lazzarino was the tennis champion of Italy for 11 times, from 1952 to 1960. With her qualification in 1954, for many years she was one of only three Italian women tennis players to have reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam event. In chronological order, she was also the last to do so, for decades, until Francesca Schiavone accomplished this feat in 2010.
