Artissima and Juventus partnered again, for the second year, to organise Artissima Junior, the project of the fair designed to involve young visitors in an immersive artistic experience of participation. Artissima Junior is the first special initiative of the fair entirely aimed at children from 6 to 11 years of age, who become the protagonists of a creative operation.
After the success of the 2018 edition, this year Artissima Junior called on a duo of young artists, Valentina Ornaghi (Milan, 1986) and Claudio Prestinari (Milan, 1984), to invent and conduct SOPRA SOPRA, a project that became a collective artwork, somewhere between an installation and a useful object. The central element was marble, a precious material connected with the history of Italian sculpture, but at the same time a part of furnishings and architecture, easily recognized by children as a surface they have been warned not to ruin in their play. Breaking with conventions, Ornaghi and Prestinari encouraged the participants to use crayons on marble tables, without scribbling but following instead some precise rules. In this group effort, initially monochromatic and distant tables came together to form a single surface, a symphony of colours that formed the Juventus logo and conveyed new meanings and possibilities: a true playing field. The work and its genesis demonstrate how practice and the application of rules can create something unique and special, offering an infinity of possible results in which the creative input of every person contributes to enhance that of the others.
SOPRA SOPRA is also an activity book that continues the investigation of the solid bond between parts and the whole. Featuring stickers, drawings and creative instructions, the activity book becomes a mobile memory of the moments spent at Artissima Junior, a form of creativity training, an artistic workshop to take home and show to friends and relatives.
