Public days:

Launched during the last edition of the fair, the METAmorphosis project is the result of dialogue between Artissima and Fondazione per l’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea CRT, in synergy with the OGR Award and in collaboration with the technical partners Artshell, LCA Studio Legale e REVIBE – Metaverse Experience Factory.

The aim of the project is to reflect on the relationship between art, technology and innovation by investigating the complex phenomenon of the Metaverse, highlighting its potential and limitations and proposing a critical, formative and educational vision for art world professionals (galleries and artists) and the public of enthusiasts.

The 4 participating artists were selected at Artissima 2022: Marco Lutyens – Alberta Pane, Paris, Venice / Eva & Franco Mattes – Apalazzogallery, Brescia / Rebeca Romero – Copperfield, London / R M – Martina Simeti, Milan.

The artists were invited to work on the project idea of a physical work and its digital alter-ego in the Metaverse.
> Explore the projects on the dedicated platform developed ad hoc by Artshell.

Marcos Lutyens (London, 1964) lives and works in Los Angeles. His artistic practice targets the psychic and emotional well-being of his audiences by skillfully leading participants in hypnotic exercises that affect the deepest levels of their psyche. His works take form in installations, sculptures, drawings, short films, writings and performances. In his explorations of consciousness, Lutyens has collaborated with celebrated neuro-scientists V. Ramachandran and Richard Cytowic, as much as studying under shamans from different cultures. From these research, he has worked with visitors' unconscious states in museums, galleries and biennales around the world, including dOCUMENTA (13), Guggenheim New York, Centre Pompidou, Istanbul Biennale, Venice Biennale, among others.

Apalazzo gallery, Brescia

Eva & Franco Mattes are an Italian artist duo living in New York. They were among the first artists to use the internet as a medium to create art. Through videos, installations and websites, their work responds to and dissects our contemporary networked condition, always approaching the ethics and politics of life online with a darkly humorous edge. Their works can be found in the collections of the SFMOMA, Whitney Museum of American Art, Fotomuseum Winterthur, X Museum and the Walker Art Center. Their largest solo exhibition to date is scheduled to open in July 2023 at Frankfurter Kunstverein.

Martina Simeti gallery, Milano

R M (Geneva, 2015) is an artist duo working between Geneva and Berlin. Their visual practice investigates the local codes and the coping strategies generated around diseases and stigmas. Until 2022 they have been working under the moniker Real Madrid, reduced then to R M. Their work has been exhibited in private and public institutions like Swiss Institute (New York), Migros Museum (Zurich), Centre d’Art Contemporain (Genéve), Centre Culturelle Suisse (Paris), GAK (Bremen), Auto Italia South East (London). They received a Swiss Art Award in 2018 and were fellows in 2019/20 at the Istituto Svizzero in Rome.
