On the occasion of the presentation of the monograph Mariuccia Secol: Unraveling (Hatje Cantz) – published in conjunction with the major retrospective dedicated to the artist at Muzeum Susch (running until 1 November 2026) – curators Monika Branicka and Eva Brioschi trace the artistic and militant trajectory of Mariuccia Secol (b. 1929). Co-founder of Gruppo Femminista “Immagine” Varese and a pioneer of textile art, Secol turns the act of unravelling fabric into a conceptual tool for emancipation, protest, and care. The volume restores central visibility to a key figure of Italian feminist art long sidelined by the canon, exploring her transition from encaustic painting to 1970s collective activism and her participation in the 1978 Venice Biennale.
Speakers: Monika Branicka (Art historian, art critic and curator); Eva Brioschi (Art historian, author, curator at Collezione La Gaia and artistic director at FADN)
