Artissima — the most contemporary art fair in Italy — will return to Torino from 31 October to 2 November. The unique character of Artissima stems from its dual approach, combining a market proposal at the highest level with a wide range of special projects, both in town and at the fair, as a result of the collaboration with exceptional partners and prestigious cultural institutions, to explore and redefine the contemporary art scene.
The screen is a muscle
Artissima and Intesa Sanpaolo present The screen is a muscle, fourth edition of the artists’ film and video programme hosted in the spaces of Gallerie d’Italia – Torino. Curated by Luca Lo Pinto and inspired by Yvonne Rainer’s renowned work The Mind is a Muscle (1968), the exhibition presents a reflection on the body, the digital dimension, gender stereotypes and urban nature, offering a space of freedom without rhetoric to the eyes of visitors. The viewing is paced by adding an ulterior level of dramaturgy, with short audio interventions created for the occasion by the artist Martina Ruggeri, which break up and introduce new rhythms in the score.

NO MANUAL
In line with the theme of this edition, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, the VIP Lounge of Artissima will host site-specific works by the art duo The Back Studio (Galleria MATTA, Milano). NO MANUAL takes its cue from the observations of Buckminster Fuller, who says that fate has not left us with instructions to guide our life, and urges us to celebrate the power of intuition, experimentation, improvisation and discovery.
The area is enhanced by furnishings designed by NM3, whose collections stand out for furniture and objects in stainless steel, as the expression of a minimalist, functional design philosophy.
An instruction manual inspired by Richard Buckminster Fuller
In homage to this year’s theme, Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth, during the fair publication produced by Artissima will be available to visitors, an Instruction Manual that will bring together suggestions, ideas and insights from many of the curators and artists who have collaborated with the fair in various roles in recent years. It is a true guide through the present and into the near future, created by listening to the voices of those who have devoted their lives to working in art.
We look forward to welcoming you in Torino this fall!
